Chrysler 200 - Vehicle Overview

The new 200 improves on the sloppy driving dynamics and crummy interior of its bland predecessor; it's pleasant to drive and features strong interior materials that few in the class can better. The available 283-horsepower V6 engine also boasts the most power in the class while returning respectable fuel economy. Another plus is sheet metal that's more stylish than that of the previous generation.

Exterior

The 200's predecessor, the Sebring, wasn't what you'd call a gracefully styled sedan, but Chrysler designers updated the 200's exterior to make it a little more like one. The design is sleeker, and it introduced a new Chrysler wing badge that's more abstract than before. The 200's headlights resemble those from the 200C concept car, and they incorporate LED light pipes that give the headlights a high-tech look at night.

There's still the stubby trunk lid at the rear, along with the familiar arcing C-pillars, but the 200's revised tail lost much of the older Sebring's chunkiness, thanks to new taillights and trim pieces. Exterior features include:

  • Standard 17-inch steel wheels with covers; 17- or 18-inch aluminum wheels optional
  • Standard heated side mirrors
  • Standard remote keyless entry
  • Standard variable intermittent windshield wipers
  • Optional power sunroof
  • Power cloth soft-top or power-retractable hardtop (convertible)

Interior

The 200's interior has a dashboard that uses nice materials and exhibits Chrysler's greater attention to detail in things like the air vents and door trim inserts. The end result is cabin quality that should be reasonably competitive for a few years. Interior features include:

  • Standard cloth seats; leather upholstery optional
  • Standard air conditioning; automatic air conditioning optional
  • Standard CD stereo with MP3 jack
  • Standard analog clock
  • Standard tilt/telescoping steering wheel with audio controls
  • Standard 60/40-split folding backseat(sedan)
  • Optional heated front seats
  • Optional touch-screen audio system with 28 gigabytes of music storage
  • Optional navigation system

Under the Hood

The 200's base engine is a 173-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder. Depending on the trim level, it teams with either a four- or six-speed automatic transmission. The optional engine is Chrysler's new 3.6-liter V-6, which is rated at 283 hp and works with a six-speed automatic.

  • Front-wheel drive
  • Both engines can use regular gas

Safety

Standard safety features include:

  • Antilock brakes
  • Electronic stability system
  • Side-impact airbags for the front seats
  • Side curtain airbags
  • Active front head restraints

Chrysler 200C - Vehicle Overview

The Chrysler 200 Convertible offers two different power tops — the classic soft cloth top and the available painted steel retractable hardtop. Raise or lower either top using the power-top button on the instrument panel or lower it remotely with the key fob. The top automatically unlatches and folds away out of sight. To provide a seamless, finished look and protect your convertible top, the power hard tonneau cover effortlessly hides your hardtop or soft top when lowered. A luggage protector in the trunk helps prevent damage to cargo and also protects the top itself. The hardtop combines the fun of a convertible with the practicality of a conventional coupe. With the hardtop raised, you can enjoy the quiet, comfortable ride of a true four-season vehicle.

Bifunctional halogen projector headlamps deliver impressive forward lighting with excellent light spread. They feature LED accents, making them as beautiful as they are functional. The fog lamp design also uses projector-style lamps (available on the Chrysler 200 Convertible S and Limited). Jeweled LED taillamps tie front and rear styling together beautifully.

Sculpted curves and lines frame every element of the Chrysler 200 Convertible exterior — from the signature grille to the dramatic bright exhaust tips. Bright accents highlight the bodyside moldings and door handles. LED taillamps illuminate attention to detail. Sophisticated 17-inch and 18-inch wheel designs add the finishing touch to this vehicle's attention-grabbing exterior.

Technology

From music to travel destinations to phone calls, we connect you to the people, places and things that matter most. The available Uconnect™ Media Center Radios let you store thousands of songs, select playlists, play videos, view photos and more. And properly equipped models let you listen to SiriusXM Satellite Radio and navigate using a full-color touchscreen display or Voice Command.

Talking on the phone while driving has never been easier — or more responsible. Uconnect® Phone is the in-vehicle, voice- activated communication system that allows you to pair up to seven Bluetooth® compatible phones and then talk virtually hands-free. This system is also clever enough to synchronize with your phone's address book — up to 1,000 entries — every time you get into your vehicle.

You can stream music wirelessly through your Chrysler 200 Convertible speakers via Bluetooth® Streaming Audio available with Uconnect™ Voice Command and your compatible Bluetooth Phone.

If you carry your music collection around, Bluetooth Streaming Audio means no wires and, in some cases, not having to carry both a phone and an MP3 player into the car. It also allows you to stream online content from an Internet-connected smartphone. And for exceptional sound reproduction the available Boston Acoustics® Audio System includes four full-range speakers, two tweeters and a 276-watt digital amplifier.

Safety

Every Chrysler 200 Convertible is equipped with standard advanced airbag systems. Front multistage airbags+ deploy with appropriate force based on the severity of the impact. Front seat-mounted side airbags+ provide enhanced side protection for the driver and front passenger.

The driver and front passenger head restraints on the Chrysler 200 Convertible are "active" in the event of a rear-end collision. These front active head restraints+ move forward and upward to decrease the space between the headrest and occupant's head, helping to prevent or reduce the chance of injury.

Security is a special concern for convertible owners. All Chrysler 200 Convertible models include the Sentry Key® Theft Deterrent System which only allows the engine to start with the properly encoded key. If someone attempts to start the vehicle without it, the engine will not operate.

In addition, if someone tries to enter your vehicle, the security alarm will alert you by flashing the lights and sounding the horn. It monitors the doors and trunk as well as the ignition circuit for unauthorized entry.

If you need to secure cargo in your 200 Convertible, large items can be stored in the trunk and small items can be placed in the locking glove box.

Performance

The Chrysler 200 Convertible S and Limited models feature the 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine coupled with the AutoStick six-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment. It delivers 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, while providing fuel economy ratings of 19 city / 29 highway mpg*. In addition, it has a Flex Fuel Supply System that can operate effectively on any blend of gasoline and fuel-grade ethanol up to E85.

This state-of-the-art engine features a compact, lightweight design with a dual-tuned intake manifold, dual-overhead camshafts and high-flow intake and exhaust ports — along with Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Throttle Control with integrated speed control.

For efficient performance, the Chrysler 200 Convertible Touring models feature the standard 173-horsepower 2.4L four-cylinder engine. It delivers fuel economy ratings of 20 city / 31 highway mpg+. Its proven design includes dual overhead camshafts, Variable Valve Timing (VVT) and Electronic Throttle Control. It is teamed with the AutoStick six-speed automatic transmission.

*2012 EPA estimated 19 city / 29 hwy w/ 3.6L engine and 6-speed automatic.

Every Chrysler 200 Convertible has refined drive and handling dynamics that provide highly responsive handling and a comfortable, quiet ride. That's because unlike other manufacturers, our suspension and extremely rigid body structure were specifically engineered for the unique characteristics of a convertible.

A MacPherson front strut suspension is tuned to provide an optimum balance of handling and noise isolation and the multi-link rear suspension allows individual articulation of the rear wheels over varying road surfaces to ensure a smooth ride. Comfort-tuned springs and shocks, stiffened body mounts and premium 17-inch or 18-inch all-season tires provide excellent balance and road-gripping maneuverability.

For superb driver control, Chrysler 200 Convertible includes standard stability features on every model. When it senses a difference between your steering input and actual vehicle motion, Electronic Stability Control applies selective braking and reduces engine power to guide you back on your intended path. All-speed traction control applies brake pressure and reduces engine power when wheels slip, to regain traction. Brake Assist applies and maintains maximum braking pressure in emergency braking situations, to help you stop in the shortest distance possible.
